Student Housing at Georgia Southern University Gets Germinator's Sanitizing and Disinfecting Service
September 05, 2020
With fall approaching, universities are beginning to open across the country. With those openings come the challenges of bringing students back on campus to a clean and hygienic environment. One of the biggest concerns has been for those students who will be living on campus. Georgia Southern University in Statesboro has already taken steps to create a sanitized and disinfected environment for students, both those who will be commuting daily and those who plan to live on campus. It starts with a rigorous approach to daily cleaning and social distancing guidelines, followed by the extra protection of Germinator and the University sanitizing and disinfecting services
Germinator has a unique approach to sanitizing and disinfecting. We have developed a patent-pending process that provides a new generation of microbial protection for residential or commercial establishments. Upholding the highest standards of sanitization and disinfecting, we only makes claims that are scientifically supported and within EPA regulations. Our research and process are validated by the Germinator Scientific Advisory Board. The board is made up of key leaders such as Dr. Roscoe M. Moore, Jr. —who was an Assistant to the United States Surgeon General for five administrations. The integrity of the Germinator brand is something we are extremely proud of and something we take seriously.
We first test surfaces for ATP using a luminometer to detect light that can come from cellular activity. This measurement immediately provides the level of clean on a surface.
The next step is the application of Germinator's Genesis surface treatment. Genesis is a one-step cleaner and broad-spectrum sanitizer and disinfectant treatment that harnesses the power of hypochlorous acid (HOCl). Derived from naturally occurring minerals, Genesis not only eliminates odors at their source but kills a wide range of bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus
, MRSA, Salmonella enterica
and Pseudomonas aeruginosa
, and viruses including norovirus, rotavirus and adenovirus on hard, non-porous, environmental surfaces. It meets the Association of Official Agricultural Chemists (AOAC) germicidal spray standards for Hospital Grade Disinfection and is on the EPA's N List of products determined to meet the criteria for use against SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. As a result, this treatment will eliminate bacteria and viruses that may reside in your environment without the use of harsh chemicals or fumes.
Following Genesis, we apply our Shield, a water-based quaternary ammonium compound that imparts a durable bacteriostatic finish. It is EPA-registered as effective against mold, mildew, algae and odor-causing bacteria. This application creates an invisible barrier that helps combat deterioration and discoloration and promotes freshness for up to three months.
The Genesis and Shield products are applied by using an electrostatic sprayer, which is the most efficient and effective means of delivering the products to the intended application sites. After our surface treatment and protectant services, we retest ATP levels to help ensure the surfaces have achieved the intended results.
Georgia Southern University heard about our effective and convenient approach to keeping campuses sanitized and disinfected and hired us to come in and make their student housing as clean and hygienic as possible. University sanitizing and disinfecting can be a challenge, and Georgia Southern University was a huge job. Many areas needed to be treated, and it required a thorough and diligent approach. We sent our field specialists in to apply our patent-pending process to the entire student housing unit. Our teams moved throughout the housing unit, sanitizing and disinfecting each of the rooms. We covered all of the common areas, both inside and outside, applying our process to all of the major touchpoints and places that often get overlooked. Since Germinator's HOCI solution doesn't use harsh chemicals or fumes, students were able to return almost immediately.
Georgia Southern University took a proactive step toward creating a cleaner and more hygienic area for students. They understand the fears many students are facing as they return to the university. They listened to those concerns and decided the best approach was to take preventive measures rather than wait for something bad to happen. By taking those measures, they were able to address students' and parents' concerns in a meaningful way.
Georgia Southern University heard about Germinator and liked the idea of being able to get out ahead of COVID-19. They liked that the service was affordable, efficient, and convenient. It was important to the university that they welcome students and faculty back to the campus with confidence. We were able to give them the peace of mind they were looking for. Steve Thornton, the owner of the Southeast Georgia franchise, is proud to bring Germinator's services to the area. The company's process is ideal for daycares, long-term care facilities, rental properties, restaurants and bars, public gyms and parks, medical facilities, office buildings, and anywhere else we work, play, and gather.
